Lilac Jun - Neonights

Lilac Jun - Neonights

That is correct. It’s not “Neon Nights”. It’s, for whatever reason, ‘Neonights’. But who am I to judge? Aaron Krause (AKA - Lilac Jun) has got the followers to prove that it doesn’t matter what it is you’re saying, it just matters how you say it.

Now, I’ll be totally honest here when it comes to this sort of music, I am immediately reminded of Drake and I am usually pretty turned off by the prospect of listening any further. However, I do have to hand it to Lilac Jun here. his latest single might be a little on the repetitive side, but I am reasonably sure that this repetition is not only incredibly purposeful but also exactly what will attract listeners to the tune.

There is something about this song in its repetition and staggered lyrics that gives it an almost mantra-like quality that could very easily absorb anyone into some sort of state of calm or bliss. I can easily imagine this being a club favourite where people can just lose themselves in the rhythm of the music and find themselves somehow.

Considering that healing through his own music by way of self-discovery is Lilac Jun’s method of creation, we should not at all be surprised by this sort of track. The ambience of the piece allows for an ethereal sort of feeling to permeate the auto-tuned vocals that run all through the song.

That is one thing I will say I struggle to appreciate in any song. I realize that auto-tune is not just a way to make up for poor singing and is itself an instrument of sorts, but I find that listening to someone’s true voice is far more appealing and rewarding than a heavily processed version of the same voice. Indeed, I struggle to understand all of the lyrics because of this very thing. Not that I cannot take meaning from the song, but that I literally cannot understand some of the words being sung. Regrettable though this is, I seriously doubt this will be an obstacle for the success of the track, by any means.

All in all, ‘Neonights’ should be a feature on anyone’s club or party playlist this summer. It’s got a seductive and sweet beat to it and a sort of airy quality that can just take people away to a different place. So, get listening to it right over HERE! And do stay tuned for a hopeful interview with the one and only Lilac Jun in the coming weeks!
