Leanna Chapman Talks About her 'SIN'

Leanna Chapman Talks About her 'SIN'

After a bit of an awkward first exchange, thinking that she might be a bot with her sexy photos and constant stream of cover videos with no background info on her Facebook page, I managed to get in touch with Leanna Chapman, a very passionate singer and songwriter who just recently dropped her debut single, ‘SIN’.

It was an experience going over her new tune on an episode of The Daily Sweep with the Marvelous Marla ‘The Mouse’ McHardy. It’s got a great hook, a lot of passion and a whole lot of sex. It is certainly one of the sexiest songs I’ve heard in a while that is actually intentionally about sexual expression. It made me understand the photos on Chapman’s Facebook Page a whole lot more, “expressing your [her] sexuality without judgement.”

And who better to talk about the sexual expression of the song than the sinner herself? Leanna messaged me to prove she wasn’t a random Facebook bot and we got a bit of an interview going. Check out what she had to say about her new song, her music career and her fans!

Swept Up: What or who drove you to write this latest single?

Chapman: Honestly, my writing style is very spontaneous and random! Throughout the day I will hear little melodies in my head or random phrases will come to my mind and from those few seconds of creativity I start to think “Ok, what is the story here, and how do I expand on it?” I was doing dishes one day and the phrase “Put your hands around my waist” came to my head, which is the first line of ‘SIN’. ‘SIN’ is about expressing your sexuality without judgement.

Swept Up: Do you find that you have been gaining a lot of traction with all of the covers you've been pushing out there as well?

Chapman: Yes, I do. I have been receiving tons of support for my YouTube videos and every single view, like, comment, etc. means so much to me! I started this journey five weeks ago. Of course I had some goals in mind, but I really went into this without any concrete expectations, and the support I have received has been truly amazing.

Swept Up: What got you started in music?

Chapman: I grew up in a very musical household. My mom is a Jazz singer and taught piano and singing lessons for children from our home. We have tape cassettes of me singing as young as two or three years old. I have been singing my entire life and I feel the more hardships I experienced in my life, the more I was drawn towards getting lost in music, and singing, writing, and listening to music became my therapy.

Swept Up: What inspires you to write and perform?

Chapman: This is a tough question. I have been through a lot of dark times in my life and there were many times the only person I had to talk to about these issues was myself, so rather than write a diary I would write poems and lyrics. I have been told I sing with a lot of emotion; the emotion I feel when I sing is the strength from all of the pain I have overcome. Singing is how I truly release my emotions in the most positive and healthy way.

Swept Up: Where do you go from here now that you've released this hot new single?

Chapman: Do you have a crystal ball? Help me out here! LOL. I am just going to keep working towards my goals every day! I’m going to continue releasing cover videos every week and I am currently planning on releasing my next single ‘Therapy’ towards the end of this year. Next year I am aiming on releasing an album. I don’t currently have plans on performing live, but would love to explore that in the future, for sure!

Swept Up: What would you like to say to your prospective fans?

Chapman: To my current and prospective fans, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this, for listening to my music, I am truly honoured to be able to share my passion with you all.

Swept Up: Do you have any advice for up and coming musicians?

Chapman: Don’t ever let your fear or insecurities hold you back or delay you from following your passion and dreams. I have done that my entire life and once you realize you are in control of your destiny, everything will fall into place. I believe in the law of attraction and what you truly focus on is what will transpire. Once you decide to follow your passion and work towards it, amazing opportunities and results will come to you. Always believe in yourself!
