Gorran - I Don't Love You Anymore
For those fans of R&B and Dark Pop ballads, Gorran is the guy for you with his latest single release ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’. This powerful and heartbreaking tune seems to be taking a bit of a spin on a classic them. Breaking up is hard to do (someone said once) and Gorran has taken to write a breakup song from the point of view of the one who has fallen out of love. As someone who has been on both sides of this coin, I understand just how unbearable it can be to be the one who is falling away; unsure of how to move away from former love. Lyrically, this song is incredibly emotionally devastating.
Though I’m not a fan of the synth-laden intro and outro, I must admit that it does help to fill some space throughout the tune. However, when the bridge hits, Gorran pulls all music but the piano and the keys and his voice do more than enough to pull the heart strings. In my personal opinion, though it is a relative pull from his particular style, I would love to hear a completely stripped version or a solely orchestrated version of this song. I think with either a solo piano or even a full orchestra, Gorran could bring tears to any audience.
I think the quality of the synth simply pulls from the reality of the song story but, again, this is a matter of taste and style so given that this is my only real criticism, I can hardly complain all that much. Gorran has a beautiful voice with just enough grit to really hit home those notes we want to shatter our hearts like so many lost loves.
The honesty with which this song is sung, feigned or otherwise, truly gives the listener a personal journey to experience and whether you need to feel like you’re not alone in your loneliness or you just want to hear a beautifully-crafted ballad of falling out of love, ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’ is the song for you!
