Amistat - Love & Light
Even if you’re not environmentally conscious or caring, I must strongly suggest Amistat’s latest single, ‘Love & Light’. This is an amazing fucking song! I cannot stop listening to it. Sure, I’m a huge fan of folky and relatively somber-sounding music but I have to say that this is one of the more powerful songs I have listened to and reviewed in quite some time. I love it.
On a deeper level, this song is about how we all must work together and share our humanitarian respect with the rest of the living and breathing world so that we still have a world to live and breathe on. Even those who are skeptic of this sort of ideal will not be able to escape the power of this song. There is no doubt in my mind that these guys are wearing their hearts on their sleeves on this track; aiming to somehow evade or endure the “storms of greed” that ultimately lead to the destruction of the world around us.
I’ll admit that is hard for me to be impartial here while reviewing this track because I am just hitting repeat and continually getting caught up in the vaulted and airy quality of not just the instrumental composition but the vocals as well.
With no aim to insult, this track gives me a comparatively positive vibe akin to Blue October’s ‘Hate Me’, with maybe a mix of Trevor Hall’s ‘Indigo’. The difference? I would choose this track over the other two in a heartbeat.
The lower-registered harmony and melody that the song opens with, alongside the constantly driven guitar really opens us to a sullen sort of world and then as we are met with the high harmonies of the chorus, we are transported to this heavenly gate through which we are introduced to the second verse, with the full breadth of instrumentation, pushing forward to the bridge complete with forceful vocal burns and a mandolin solo (or quick-picked guitar bit high up on the neck). The song, beyond that, pulls back pretty quickly to the finish.
Not to be too preachy but we never know just how quickly all we have could turn to dust…so why chance losing all the beauty around us sooner than we might hope?
No matter where you stand on this last point, you should most certainly check out ‘Love & Light’ by Amistat. Give it a listen right HERE! And to keep up to date with this awesome and dynamic duo, head on over to their site right HERE.
