Fluffio & Vilivant - Rockin' Out The Time Warp

Fluffio & Vilivant - Rockin' Out The Time Warp

Fans of the spooky season probably already have a pretty big list of tunes for their upcoming Halloween parties but there is one more song you should consider adding to that list. Sure, you may already have the original ‘Time Warp’ from The Rocky Horror Picture Show ready to go but Toronto musicians Fluffio and Vilivant have banded together with a collection of other artists from the GTA to hammer out a far heavier version of this classic creeper!

With a bit of an affected British accent suddenly turned rage vocals, Fluffio emanates Lizzy Borden energy with Dee Snider vocals. Top that off with some Joan Jett-styled runs from Vilivant and you’ve got yourself a rockin’ track! It’s definitely a headbanger with a bit of harder…pretty much everything, in comparison to the original. Of course, the dance instructions remain much the same, but that’s to be expected.

Shout out to bassist Jesse Grant from In A Bag for the prominent bounce through the Magenta verse of the song. Though I found Vilivant’s vocals were obscured a bit in the mix when she hit the lower end of things in this verse, that was certainly made up for by the ska-esque composition against the creepily sexy quality of Magenta’s character.

Taking up Columbia’s verse as well, Vilivant pushes the spunky quality of the Columbia character with a harder and more intense metal vibe, rather than the nasally and relatively annoying vocals of the original, and one begins to understand why she’s opened up for the amazing Lee Aaron.

All of this to simply say again that you should be adding this to your Halloween playlists this season and make sure to party hard…and don’t forget to do the dance. And if you don’t have a place to party yet and you’re in the GTA check out Fluffio & Vilivant together on October 28th at The Baby G with support from The Backsteps and The Lookout Service. You can bet they’ll be premiering this new cover and they’ll want to see those hands on hips! Tickets are on-sale now for $15 on Eventbrite.
