Jimkata - Weight of Paradise

Jimkata - Weight of Paradise

Yes, it’s nothing but hard times all around these days but if you’re looking for a great pick-me-up tune, I have to suggest Jimkata’s latest release, ‘Weight of Paradise’. This great up-pumping anthem really does drive home the notion that it is ok to “feel the weight sometimes”.

There is a great push in society to hold in a lot of how we feel (in spite of those who vomit their feelings all over social media), but we really must put down that stress sometimes; we have to “feel[] the weight of building [our] paradise”. I am truly thrilled with this concept. This is not something we often hear in music, or at least not in this manner. Jimkata has given us such an upbeat tune whilst acknowledging and granting us all permission to accept the stress that we put ourselves under each and every day. That, in one way or another, can certainly help us to release said stress and that is a wonderfully encouraging way to reach out to the world.

Sure, the band being partially based in L.A. does help them to build a better paradise than many of us in the great white north but that doesn’t change the reality of anyone’s situation. We all have our own paradise that we are building towards and we all carry with us the pressure of building up to whatever that paradise may be.

To the song itself, there is an interesting intro that essentially doubles as the chorus as well which gives an interesting synthetic quality to this invigorating anthem of relative release and as we think we are going to be driven wholly through the song, we are pulled slightly from this synth stream upon arrival of the verse. The song continues with a pounding beat (save for the first phrase of the pre-chorus and the relaxing resolution of the close) but the analog instrumentation of the verse seems to give the weight of the song (no pun intended) far more gravity, which works just perfectly with the intended meaning of the track.

In these pandemic days, this is just the song people need to get a good boost of energy while simultaneously allowing themselves to throw away some degree of strain or anxiety in their lives. “[We’re] lucky to be alive” and we should take stock of the truly important things in this life on our way to building our paradise.

Make sure to keep up to date with Jimkata as they continue to drop singles month to month on their way to the spring 2021 release of their upcoming album ‘Bonfires’.
