The Mother Down - Feel

The Mother Down - Feel

If you’re looking for a solid, groovy, hard-rockin’ vibe to kick off the warm weather with, then you better get into the right ‘Feel’ by The Mother Down. Imagine if the Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, and Collective Soul got together to have one big musical orgy while One In The Chamber watched (just to secure a connection in Montreal for a future touring partner…a man can dream) and that is exactly what would produce this latest release by The Mother Down.

Feel’ is one hell of a departure from the last track I reviewed from the band, ‘Perfect, Imperfection’, and there is every reason why it should be. No longer at the outset of a global pandemic, there is every reason to hope for the future and to release all of that pent-up energy. And what better way to do that than to literally ‘Feel’ one’s way through it all?

This song kicks off with what could build into a blues, or country, or classic rock track and then slides into this sexy lyric that pushes over a heavy-as-fuck drop into a pounding beat, thanks to Joe De Spirito. Suddenly the vocals shift from a seduction to a roar. There’s something about the great Silvio Serrecchia’s ability to sweeten with one line, cut with another, and then let a whisper go that’s dripping sultry sex that is just a perfect mix for this hard-hitting piece. There’s no letting up and one can ‘Feel’ so many different things throughout!

The guitar and bass, courtesy of Mike Di Milo and Daniel Nicolosi, sharing a wicked run off of the riff all the way into a brief but bossy guitar solo are breathtaking and, even as the riff plays on, the bass finds every little space to fill with prog-rock-esque prowess!

This track is perfect for cruising in the car, kicking back on the patio, chillin’ by the beach, partying hard, and romping from the bedroom to any other available surface in the place. Like Steven Tyler once said in an interview about the way his music was written, “it’s those twos and fours…it’s fucking.” That is exactly the ‘Feel’ I get from this track, even if anyone would “love to hate me” for saying it.

Now, if I wanted to break down this piece beyond just the ‘Feel’ I get from it, I am conflicted about the meaning. I think it could be a love/hate relationship between two people but I also think there could be a love/hate relationship here between someone and their bottle. After all, there is broken glass at the end which could be a clue and the argument does seem rather one-sided. Maybe the booze just loves to hate…and given how this past year has been, can anyone really be surprised? That being said, the exact same could easily work between two people and some people are very much like a drug so…I guess I’ll just have to sit down and talk to someone from the band about this.

Thankfully, I’ll have the distinct pleasure of sitting down, via video call, with Silvio to discuss this track and more to come from The Mother Down this coming week and I will be posting the interview on our Swept Media channel. Make sure to head there and subscribe so you can be notified when the video goes up!

Until then, why not ‘Feel’ something awesome by listening to the latest track by Quebec’s greatest rock band running right now, The Mother Down’s, ‘Feel’!?
