Church On Sunday - Destiny

Church On Sunday - Destiny

Right off the bat, I have to start by saying I feel like a dick for not getting to this track way sooner. I was meant to review this before we hit 2021 but it seemed to have slipped my grasp for a time. In preparation for Church On Sunday’s upcoming release of ‘Control Freak’, I figured I’d jump in and get a review out for their last release, ‘Destiny’.

Right away, this track brings me back to high school, skateboarding, and all sorts of ridiculousness I got up to when I was younger. It’s a hard-hitting, up-beat and overall fun track pushing the idea of manifest destiny. I love the rather simple yet philosophical words delivered through the vehicle of a thrashy, garage punk band.

“You don’t have to be old to grow up; you don’t have to be grown to be old”…I love this opening lyric. It sets the tone right away for what fulfilling one’s ‘Destiny’ could be like. Living life, sharing love, dancing “around like no one’s watching”: these are all steps towards discovering just where we fit in life and this wonderfully wizened way of pushing positivity in such an unexpected genre is great. We’re only here for a short time, so make the most of it. After all, “your ‘Destiny’ isn’t set in stone”.

If you just like a good guitar riff, some heavy hands and a punky vocalist, this track is for you. If you like to dig for deeper meaning and understanding through lyrics, this track is for you. If you like a good blend of rumination and rock, then this track is definitely for you!

Either way, make sure to check out Church On Sunday’s ‘Destiny’.

I may not have enjoyed a lot of my time living in Toronto, but I can say that I always enjoy the plethora of great music that comes from out of the shroud of the Big Smoke, and Church On Sunday is no exception.
